R O Y A L S T A G

The first in the series, predating the others by an entire decade, Royal Stag came to me in a vision during a meditation one day. I didn't realize why, but I had to paint him. A few years after that, I found that my maternal family crest features a stag. This fueled my journey of exploring consciousness and understanding our connection to family lines, and ultimately the connectedness of all created things. This came full circle one day recently, again during meditation, when I gazed into the painting's eyes and it began speaking to my inner artist, which had been fearful and caged for years. I wept as I realized the beauty that yet exists in me, and within the week I began planning out this series. You'll see here layers upon layers showing through, oil mixed with translucent resin, intentionally letting you see the complexity of my process, and providing a "living" form for his personality to express inhabit.
